INTRODUCTION

Vormator is the ultimate challenge of your creativity: the aim of the book is to give each artist the chance to show his abilities to create a stunning piece with limited means. The contributing artists each get the exact same set of 8 shapes, the Elements. With these shapes they are challenged to create their own unique page for the book, within the limitations provided in the Rulebook. Designers are thus challenged to create a unique piece within a strict set of rules. It all comes down to pure skills and creativity in this competition.

Besides it being an ultimate test of skills, we also think the Vormator project is something new and fresh. Imagine what can spawn from these simple rules. Many people will be interested to see what different designers will do with the Elements under the imposed restrictions. Imagine what happens when well-established designers contribute their graphics: will their pieces still be strong and recognizable, being stripped down to their essence? Who will find the most creative solution?

We aim to establish an international collaboration of artists where the contrast between the art and the means has been maximized: each artist starts with the same set of forms but will have to end with a different, individual piece. Do you think you’re up for the challenge? Then please go read the Briefing.

Some of the people who are also participating in this contest: Aiko, Matei Apostolescu, Tim Biskup, Jon Burgerman, Cubemen, Dalek, DG PH, Drububu, Ingi Erlingsson, Flying Fortress, Funkrush, Von Glitschka, Handwash Studio, Boris Hoppek, Kingsize (Mika Pollack), Emil Kozak, Maki, Milk and Cookies, Motomichi Nakamura, Nick Deakin, SatOne, Stukabazooka, Thomas Moon, Unit9, Upso, Via Grafik, Yupyland (Meni Tzima) and lots of other great artists...

We will be looking forward to your submissions. Thanks, Vormator.
